Our Empathetically Blunt Commentary on The American Deal begins with this:
The state of our Union is: Endangered – Distressed and Disunited.
Our Democracy depends on rational discussions of the critical issues we face and the possible solutions from which we might choose to address them. Instead, today, we choose to call each other nasty, emotionally charged, disparaging names. We have ceased listening to each other; and we label anyone who disagrees with “us” as the worst kind of villain.
Dangerously, too many of our leaders feel free to tell lie after lie, knowing they face no real consequences.
Our situation is exacerbated by an extraordinarily partisan and vicious press. It has become impossible to believe reports in the press or news media because they consistently fill their stories with facts to promote their personal biases, and fail to report other facts, or bury them where they hope we will not find them.
Retoned.com intends to promote civil discourse on issues of importance. We believe name calling, refusals to be truthful, and the use of hateful language are all protected by our Constitution, but are indications of a lack of respect, intelligence and integrity. We don’t intend to engage in such. We welcome comments that are thoughtful and presented respectfully and honestly.
This is not a call for political correctness. Those who disagree with the views we post may be insulted or suffer hurt feelings. Too bad, don’t read our blog. It is not our intent to cause such insult or hurt; nor is it our intent to temper our views or language to avoid it. Our intent is to be empathetic, while being blunt in posting our views and beliefs. It is always good to act on our motto: “I don’t know everything, and neither do you”. So, we will listen and will speak as clearly, bluntly and respectfully as we can. We encourage others to do the same.
